Fall 2026 Hair Color Trends: My Predictions as a Cleveland Colorist

Fall is one of my favorite times of year for hair color. But this year, I don't think we're going to see everyone running to completely change their hair just because the season changed.

My prediction for Fall 2026? Richer, shinier, more dimensional, and much more intentional.

I'm already seeing this shift behind the chair. Clients want their color to feel deeper and more luxurious for fall, but they also want something that works with their natural coloring, their lifestyle, and how often they realistically want to visit the salon.

And while we're definitely seeing warmth come back, warm doesn't automatically mean better.

Rich brunettes are getting even richer

For brunettes, I think we're going to see a lot of chocolate, espresso, chestnut and dimensional brown this fall.

Instead of one flat, dark color, we're creating movement by layering different depths and tones throughout the hair.

And this is where toffee becomes one of my favorite shades for fall. Toffee can live in that beautiful space between brunette and blonde and can be customized warmer, more neutral or slightly cooler depending on the client.

Warm blondes aren't going anywhere

Honey, caramel and golden blondes are going to be beautiful this fall, especially for clients whose coloring naturally comes alive with warmth.

Rather than extremely bright, icy blonde from root to end, I'm predicting more depth at the root, ribbons of warmth and a softer transition between blonde and the client's natural color.

The result still feels blonde—it just feels richer.

But my cool-toned girls aren't becoming caramel

This is where I think trend conversations sometimes get it wrong.

If you're a Summer or Winter in seasonal color analysis, I'm not going to put golden honey or copper into your hair simply because warmer hair is trending.

For my cooler blondes, I think we're going to see more beige blondes, mushroomy neutrals, cool toffee, soft taupe and dimensional ash tones.

They give us that same cozy, expensive-looking fall depth without introducing a ton of gold, orange or red.

A Summer might look incredible in a softer, muted beige blonde, while a Winter may need more contrast and a cleaner, cooler brunette or blonde.

We can participate in a trend without copying the exact color.

Copper will continue—but it needs to be customized

Copper, cinnamon and auburn aren't disappearing anytime soon.

But there's a huge difference between choosing a copper because you saw it on Pinterest and creating a copper that actually works with you.

Some clients can handle a vibrant, fiery copper. Others need something softer, browner, more muted or more neutral.

That's where color analysis becomes incredibly useful.

Gray blending is becoming more intentional

I also think we're going to continue seeing women rethink what gray coverage has to look like.

It doesn't have to be an either/or decision between covering every gray and completely growing your natural gray out.

We can blend it.

We can soften it.

We can add dimension around it.

And we can create a color plan that allows your gray to become part of the finished look instead of something we're constantly fighting.

The biggest Fall 2026 trend? Personalization.

More than any single shade, this is the trend I'm most excited about.
